The Welsh Government’s Crime and Justice team has asked the Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice to set up and maintain an Academic Advisory Group (AAG) in collaboration with, and for, the Welsh Government.

The purpose of the group is to:

  • Facilitate collaborative engagement by sharing updates on justice devolution and other relevant justice matters, supporting the development of the evidence base to inform policy design and implementation
  • Provide academic expertise and feedback on Welsh Government justice research initiatives including the recently awarded Justice Research Programme
  • Support dissemination of updates and relevant academic and policy material to the academic community

The group was set up in Oct 2025 and meets quarterly. Academic members represent academic institutions across Wales and bring together expertise in a wide range of criminological and criminal justice research areas.

Below is a list of current members of the WAAG. WAAG will draw on additional academic expertise as required and membership will be reviewed annually or sooner if required.
